Odisha faces a significant challenge with a high prevalence of knee problems like Osteoarthritis and Osteoporosis, severely impacting people's mobility and quality of life. The Billion Knees Project is actively addressing this issue through a strategic "Hub & Spoke" model.
Five key cities across Odisha serve as our central hubs: Balasore, Angul, Rourkela, Sambalpur, and Berhampur. Each hub is anchored by a leading local organization, acting as the coordinating body for its region. These hubs are responsible for overseeing and managing the project's activities within their designated area.
Extending outwards from each hub are the "spokes" – our vital partner organizations. These spokes consist of local Orthopedic and physiotherapy clinics strategically located within reach of their respective hub. They are the frontline providers, directly delivering care and services to patients in need.
This Hub & Spoke model fosters a strong network of collaboration, ensuring efficient and widespread reach. Hubs coordinate resources and referrals, while local clinic "spokes" offer accessible care within communities. This network maximizes impact, helping more people with knee issues across Odisha.
